Sitting in one of the two Cafe Nero coffee shops in Bath recently I messaged Tom on WhatsApp to tell him what we were up and received an aghast response to the effect of “What are you doing there?” This was then followed up by the name and address of the best coffee shop in Bath supplied by the Beanhunter app.
This was Colonna & Small at 2 Chapel Row (just off Queen’s Square) in the window of which a large sign proudly tells you that they won 5th place in the World Barrista Championship 2013.
The interior is cool, Scandinavian style and all the barristas want to guide you through your choice of espresso or filter coffees from the wall menu. The bean choice is varied every week so just when you think you have one you like they go and change the menu. Nevermind, it is very good coffee and we have returned a number of times already. Best to go during the week as it is packed on a weekend and hard to get a seat.
The second best coffee shop is Society Cafe in Kingsmeade square. This is somewhat less precious than C & S and a bit more relaxed in style. The coffee seems to be just as good and it has a better range of cakes, cookies and very good brownies.
