More Art at the Holburne

A new exhibition has opened at the Holburne Museum featuring works of twentieth century artists selected from the Swindon Collection by Dexter Dalwood.  It is entitled “Gwen John to Lucian Freud: Home and the World” which sums up the exhibition fairly well.

That the Swindon Museum & Art Gallery should have such an interesting collection was certainly news to me and would provide sufficient incentive to visit Swindon other than the Railway Museum.  Although there were only 32 pictures on show they were representative of some of the leading British Artists and the period from WW I through to the ’80’s and included such names as Gwen John, Vanessa Bell, John Nash, Ben Nicholson, Graham Sutherland and Leon Kossof.

Possibly our two favourite works are below:

Spring in Eden by Ivon Hitchens, 1925

Interior Study (a) by Richard Hamilton, 1964
