Bath Abbey Organ Recitals

Just a short note to report on the wonderful institution of the Bath Abbey Organ Recitals.  Running fortnightly through much of the Spring and Autumn these Saturday afternoon recitals on the fantastic organ shown above are essentially free although there is a donation to enter the Abbey.  Not that one would begrudge a couple of pounds to listen to nearly an hour’s worth of glorious organ works whilst gazing up at the superb English Gothic ceiling of the Abbey.

We went to our first recital last weekend and heard works by the like of JS Bach, Elgar and a French organist and composer unknown to me before this, Jean Langlais.  The piece by Langlais was “Cantique” from “Folkloric Suite”.  It was absolutely delightful and the “folkloric” derivation was immediately apparent.  I am now intending to find this in the iTunes store or on Amazon.
