Wacky Races at Tetbury

We stumbled across this by accident as we were visiting my parents at Tetbury.  It seems to be an established, annual event.  Named after the famous TV cartoon show of the same name it is a “soapbox cart” race although most of the “soapboxes” appear to have become rather sophisticated, to the extent that one of them was actually a Formula Ford racing car – not racing I think!

We didn’t have time to stay and watch but it was something of a rare sunny day, luckily for them, so I took the opportunity to take plenty of photos.  The results are largely in the accompanying gallery but the Formula Ford car is below.

At the end of May there are the Wool Sack races down Gumstool Hill in Tetbury. With any luck we might be there to see them and I can post more on “Eccentric England”!

Have you seen how steep the hill is? People actually get hurt running down there carrying a sack of wool. 🙂
