    Dear Doug,

Have not read your piece but I do respect Paul Mason and think he is onto something here in that the English do NOT cohere in the way that the Scots and Welsh do. And class / wealth / cultural dominace is part of the reason. The London mob was always famous for its belligerence, ability to change events or at least influence them, and drunkeness. The mobs led by the Sun are similar methinks! Or am I hopelessly elitist?! J

Have not read my piece???!!! What is the meaning of this? I agree with him on the notion that the “English” are cut across by other divisions such as class although there is strong regionalism in England too which Scottishness and Welshness are versions of, or the other way around. That is why – read my piece – some in the north of England actually think they would be better off joining with the Scots and why Cornwall rather fancies itself as a separate region. We could have a Balkanization of the UK.
