I must apologise for my recent lack of activity. We have been very preoccupied with one thing or another and I have not found myself in the mood to sit down and blog. I will be reporting soon on our recent trip to Amsterdam and some cultural activities. One thing that has been taking up our time though is that we have just moved to one of the two top floor apartments in Kensington Chapel.
This has been in the offing for some times now as we made an offer on the rental a few months ago but the owner decide to test the market and offer it for sale instead with the proviso that we would be given first refusal for rental if he could not sell it.
As luck would have it the market has, as the real estate trade would say, “softened” and the apartment indeed did fail to sell and true to his word our new landlord made good on his offer. So we have been through the moving thing again even though it was just up one floor. One cannot avoid all the accompanying administration though: the cleaning, furniture moving, changing of address with endless entities, the terminating one rental agreement and setting up the new one, the checking in and out process and so on. Then once in, there are always all the minor irritations to get fixed such as the kitchen sink plug that doesn’t work or the lights that are not working.
Also, there is the siren call of IKEA as we work out what pieces of furniture we now need as this apartment is somewhat bigger than the old one and a completely different floor plan. We very much purchased furniture to fit the old space and now we have to make it all work in the new one. Still, that is not such a problem; it is more fun really.
We are very happy with the new place as it is very private, with views to the south and east over the tree covered valley sides within which Bath is nestled and our own outdoor terrace with battlements from which to enjoy it. The living room has full width folding glass doors which makes us feel very much at home. With summer now finally here, we love the openness and the air and we will have more space for our up-coming guests from overseas.
